The Tolkien trail, Walked 11.03.23

A nice four hour walk in Lancashire taking in the sights around the Stonyhurst area in Lancashire. The area has been suggested as the inspiration for The Lord Of The Rings which was written by J. R. R. Tolkien and he definitely stayed in the area. Some references in the books do seem to have been absorbed from local land marks; Shire Lane is a good example. The walk has had a lot of work done to it to make it easier access. There are many new metal “kissing” gates and in several areas the path has been layed with old astro turf which makes the going very easy indeed, like walking on carpet. There are still a few muddy areas so a good pair of walking shoes are a minimum with walking boots recommended.
