Lecture 36 Benzodiazepines
In this lecture I discuss the class of anti-anxiety drugs known as benzodiazepines. This class of drugs are among the most commonly prescribed in the US. Here I discuss their pharmacological properties, the problems associated with their use, particularly in the elderly, and the appropriate uses for these drugs. I spend sometime discussing how these drugs cause temporary amnesia and their use in conscious sedation procedures. Finally, the drug flumazenil which immediately reverses an overdose in these drugs.
