The Enemy’s Territory Where Jesus Declared: “I Will Build My Church”

Why did Jesus choose one of the darkest and most pagan places in Israel to make one of the greatest declarations in history?

Far from the familiar shores of Galilee, Jesus led His disciples to Caesarea Philippi, a city filled with pagan temples, idolatry, and shrines dedicated to false gods. It was home to a terrifying cave that many in the ancient world called the “Gates of Hades” or the “mouth of hell.”

And it was there—right in the heart of enemy territory—that Jesus asked the question that changes every human life:

“Who do you say that I am?”
