Zaire - President Mobutu public appearance

In his first public appearance since returning to Kinshasa two
days ago, President Mobutu Sese Seko vowed on Sunday (23/3) to
stop his country falling apart at the hands of rebels who have
swept across much of eastern Zaire.

SOT Mbeki (in English) "Mobutu is studying communication from
President Mandela, and will be responding to it very shortly. We
are convinced that in the immediate future steps will be taken
to move to a solution.. we spoke of the security council
resolutions, ceasefire matter and negotiations.. I think that
there's a general will to move ahead with those matters.";
