360° VR Derby City Walking tour. For Oculus Quest 2 - 360° 5.7K

I have made this 360° Virtual Reality walking video for expats of Derby who would love to take a trip down memory lane by taking you on a virtual walk as though you were there in person, complete with all the natural sounds.
You can look in all directions at all times, you can also pause and then look around if you wish.

Please leave a comment if you enjoyed this walk and any memories you have of the many areas you can see along this walk. Also let me know of any other locations you might like to see me do a virtual walk in.

For best quality you will need a pretty fast computer. Click on the gear "settings" at the bottom right of the video, Click Quality and set to "2880s 5k"

I recorded this at 6:30am on Friday 16th July 2021 so it was quiet.

The Derby city Virtual Reality walk starts on The Wardwick outside the old central Library building then in front of Derby museum building to the Michael Thomas Bass statue on Museum Square. Then through to Cheapside and up to Sadler Gate to the top then I go left up Iron Gate towards the Cathedral. Now onto Queen Street in front of The Dolphin Inn pub then right down Full Street past the Silk Mill mural and on towards the Museum of making, then along the river Derwent and over Cathedral Green footbridge. Now we walk back and over Silk Mill Park towards the Bonnie Prince Charlie statue. Next we head down Full Street and down Corporation Street and then The Morledge near Derby Bus Station and my walk ends at the end of East Street.

You can pause the video at any point and then look all around in 360°, being a video you can also rewind and move to any point in the walk using the timeline at the bottom of the video. Here is a list of times and what you can see, you can click on these (pc only) and it will take you to that point in the walk.

Having recently bought an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset I thought I would have a go at creating my own content for it. I hope you like my attempt at making a 360° video for an Oculus, you should hopefully feel that you are actually there in person.

Viewing this 360° video in your Oculus Quest 2 VR Headset :
From the main menu select Apps and pick the YouTube VR app (install if
you don’t have it), Select the 360° button, select the search box and search for @comedyhunter 360 Derby walking tour.

This video is me walking around some of the streets in Derby city centre, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom in July 2021.

If you have never tried a VR headset before then you will be amazed by the illusion it gives you of actually being there in person, it’s a totally immersive environment.

Total distance covered in this VR walking video is 1.3km 4296ft and it lasts for 18 minutes.

If you liked my 360° Derby virtual walking tour video then please leave a comment, a like and subscribe as I plan to make some more of these in the future in different locations around the country so be sure to hit subscribe and enable notifications so you don’t miss out when I make new videos.

If you don’t own at VR headset don’t worry, you can still view it but the effect won’t be the same. On a desktop you can drag the view around with the mouse.

If you view the video on a Smartphone via the YouTube App then it will move the viewpoint around depending on the physical position of the
phone, rotate the phone to landscape mode and it will fill the screen for better viewing.

You can also put the App into Google cardboard mode if you have a

Google cardboard VR system to pop your smartphone into to simulate a VR headset.

The resolution of the spherical video is 5760 pixels horizontally by 2880 pixels vertically. The files are quite large for this walk at 26.5Gb total. I used a carbon fibre selfie stick to keep the camera up high so you have a good all round view.

Thanks Andy
