Xbox 360 Development Kit XeDK 2004 Xenon Beta Prototype #1
This is a rare XeDK protoype. This video points out several differences between the Xenon Prototype and the final production. This video is one of two I am aware of on YouTube and this one actually is functional. When I received this the shell was cracked, the sidecar was missing alone with faceplate (still are) and the power port, AV port and networking port all were purposely destroyed by means of a hammer and some sort of punch or chisel. The console power port was still fixable in it's condition with use of very small needle nose pliers and luck. The original av port was destroyed, so I desoldered it and replaced it with a new one. The networking port to this day still has not been replaced, I will get to it eventually.
Other interesting facts:
When the "titan" board is disconnected the console throws a general 3 red light error (RROD) secondary code of 0022 but once reconnected it is fully functional.
This is the second version of console known to have Microsoft use blue leds in the console. The other, XNA version of the XDK Xbox 360. It had blue/red leds in the rf module enabling the ROL to light blue when normal and red when error. However the prototype beta console has it's blue leds on the motherboard and titan.
The earlier "alpha" prototype kits were known to have inverted ROLs, meaning in normal mode the leds lit red while in error the leds were green as the center led was bright green regardless of boot or error modes.
Please note, no dev kits will play retail 360 games, this console is no exception. In the video I make a comment about it not playing things other dev kits will play, of this I am referring to unsigned code. This beta dev kit will not play just any unsigned code but only unsigned code intended for beta.
Basically if for some reason you manage to get your hands on one, it will be nothing more than an interesting conversation starter or a unicorn in your collection as it is for mine.
This video is for educational purposes only.
Enjoy!
