The new "must see" summer attraction appears on Cape Cod
“Better than Plymouth Rock.” A large boulder in the parking lot of a Staples store in Orleans, Massachusetts has unexpectedly become Cape Cod’s newest summer attraction.
Dubbed the “Staples Rock,” the stone gained viral attention online and even earned a spot on Google Maps. While some speculated about its mysterious origins, geologist Katie Castagno explained it was likely deposited by glaciers 15,000 to 20,000 years ago.
However, the rock was actually unearthed during sewer work in the parking lot. After a car crashed into the Staples building last year, someone jokingly suggested leaving the rock there for protection—and it stayed.
