Starship V3 Just Killed “Prototype Mode” 🚀
SpaceX just retired the rocket that caught its own booster. Starship V3 is here: about 1.5 meters taller, over 30% more powerful, and already rolling to Pad 2 at Starbase for its first launch campaign.
Version 2 was the chaos era, exposed plumbing, engine heat shields, and a launch mount that nearly destroyed itself on Flight 1. V3 flips the script. Raptor 3 hides most of that “spaghetti plumbing” inside the engine, cuts more than a ton of mass per engine, and pushes thrust toward 280–300 tons each, giving the booster over 9,000 tons of liftoff thrust. Fewer parts, cleaner design, faster turnarounds.
Pad 2’s new cuboid launch mount adds dual flame‑trench style exhaust handling, a water‑cooled steel plate, and upgraded chopsticks powered by stronger actuators, built from lessons learned on Pad 1. But Elon Musk just added one huge constraint: no tower catches until Starship nails at least two perfect soft splashdowns first. Full reusability is delayed, but long‑term reliability and pad safety just got a massive upgrade.
Subscribe to StellarView for breakdowns of Starship V3, Pad 2, and the engineering that will decide who actually wins the reusable rocket race.
