Garlic early spring, yellow leaves no problem
In early April, it's still early for garlic to be growing strongly. Don't worry if you see some yellow leaves at the base of the stem. This is normal.
Also they will not be bulbing up for another 6 to 8 weeks. Harvest of soft neck in mid latitude climates like this, is late June and it's early July for hardneck. In the polytunnel it can be early June.
To judge when they're ready for harvest, check the bulbs below ground and don't wait for leaves to go yellow, that's too late.
