A Winter Day at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge
Ducks, geese, pelicans, sandhill cranes and rare whooping cranes are just some of the birds that visit Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge during the spectacular winter migratory bird season. Several species of raptors are commonly seen at this time, including hawks, bald eagles, kestrels, and as spring arrives, ospreys. Numerous other birds, mammals, fish and reptiles make Wheeler their home, providing a unique opportunity for anyone interested in photography, hiking or just enjoying the view of thousands of winter waterfowl.
