Rifleman J S Rawat's-1962 Nuranang, NEFA

17 November 1962, 4th Battalion of Garhwal Rifles was occupying defensive position near the Nuranang bridge in NEFA. Rifleman JS Rawat's company was subjected to a series of attacks by Chinese forces. The enemy managed to bring forward a medium machine gun very close and brought repeated attrition on the Indian defences. Rifleman JS Rawat led the charge and destroyed the enemy Medium Machine Gun(MMG) position. Rifleman JS Rawat moved forward and caused heavy casualties on the enemy. Rifleman JS Rawat despite injuries faught till the very last. For his exceptional courage, inspiring leadership, daredevil spirit and initiative in the face of stiff enemy opposition, Rifleman JS Rawat was posthumously awarded #MahavirChakra #BraveSonOfIndia #ArmedForcesweek
