I begin with a 10"x20" stretched canvas and coat the whole surface with a thick layer of white paint. I have a shallow container of colors leftover and I add many many more colors to it. I dribble looping random abstract ribbons of colors into the bottom 1/3 of the canvas. The ribbons do not touch the bottom edge. I tip the canvas toward the bottom edge to flow and stretch the paint vertically. It pools against the edge of a plastic card I use to stop the paint from flowing away and I tip the canvas back to flow the pooled paint back into the design. I manipulate the design by dragging a flat front spatula up and down pulling the patterns to create the impression of foliage. I also do this with a bamboo skewer. I use the skewer to create spirals and push and pull leaves and add dots to decorate flowers. I love a loop of ball chain to drag out ribbons of textured paint and also to add spiral elements. I add some green to accent the rest of the colors and enhance the overall weedy theme. I forget a stem that gets added after the recording finishes, an also a few other enhancements to finish.
My "pouring" mixture or "recipe" is simple- 10-20% Golden Gac 800 goes into 80 or 90% color to start the mixing process. Mix thoroughly. I add Floetrol,( minimum)enough to double the volume. You could use a more expensive alternative. I like Deco Art pouring medium. If you use squeeze bottles as I do, add a marble and shake your paints every time before you use them. All my acrylic paints are mixed in advance and contained and stored in squeeze bottles. I add no silicon. To create the pearlescent effects seen in most of my artworks I use "Golden's" Iridescent pearl "Fine" added to colors. By "eye " until I am pleased with what I see. Every day I learn new things. I will never stop experimenting and I am happy to share what I discover with you.
