KAIKOURA: WHALE WATCHING, SEAL COLONY, CAR MUSEUM /// NEW ZEALAND TRAVEL VLOG

Kaikoura is famous for its Whale Watching Tours, Seal Colony, Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway, beautiful scenery and many other attractions. During our recent New Zealand Road Trip we stayed in Kaikoura for two days and decided to share our experience with you. If you're looking for inspiration or would like to explore things to do in Kaikoura - this travel video is for you!

We know Kaikoura pretty well as we spent some time here a couple of years ago. That's why we wanted to make this visit different, see and do things we haven't done there yet. Because Kaikoura is a popular tourist destination on the South Island of New Zealand, there is heaps to do there. We had two full days in Kaikoura, so we chose very diverse activities.

Arguably the most popular thing to do in Kaikoura is whale watching. There are several companies and tour options available including boat and airplane safaris. We picked a tour with Kaikoura Whale Watch as they are one of the oldest (or maybe even the oldest) local company providing this experience for tourists. This tour took us approximately 3,5 hours and we saw 4 different whales (including huge sperm whale), dolphins, fur seals and also lots of birds. It was great fun!

Kaikoura is also home to a nice vintage car museum. It's easy to find Harmon's Classic Car Museum and recently opened Bernie's Diner - they are located on the Beach Road, which is part of the main highway going from Picton to Christchurch. The collection of this museum is bigger than we expected and focuses on American cars from 1950-1960s. Don't forget to grab a hot dog and a milkshake from the diner afterwards!

Another super popular Kaikoura attraction is Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. Not only because you can enjoy amazing views of the coastline and mountains, but mainly because of the Seal Colony and a couple of bird colonies located here. What makes Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway so great for tourists is that you can spot seals literally a couple of metres from the carpark. But if you do the walk, you can see more seals resting on rocks and some of them can be very very close to the track. It's an amazing experience for the whole family as this walking track is easy to do and it's reasonably short.
