The New Roots app, which is the first of its kind in Australia, is free and available in Arabic, English, Farsi and Tamil for iPhone and Android devices.
It includes information, tips and tools that can help men with starting a new life and staying positive and strong as they settle in Australia.
The app can help men apply for work, join community groups and sports teams, find medical and community support. It also has tools to use to stay fit, strong and healthy while settling in Australia.
The app has stories about the experiences of other men who have settled in Australia as refugees. And is also provides easily accessible information about Australian culture and society.
The design and content was all based on research and consultations with the communities that the project is intended to support.
The app isn’t intended to replace traditional one-on-one support from a settlement caseworker, but is designed as an additional tool that men can use whenever they need.
SSI worked with Arabic, Tarsi and Tamil speaking community members to ensure the App is culturally appropriate and specifically useful for men from those backgrounds.
