What is a pesticide?
The word 'pesticide' is often not fully understood. A pesticide is any substance (or mixture of substances) intended to prevent, destroy, repel, or mitigate a pest. This includes not only herbicides and insecticides, but products such as disinfectants as well. Some are synthetic, others are naturally occurring, and they must all be registered with the US Environmental Protection Agency.
