360 probe video INSIDE wedge tornado southwest of Elk City, OK 5/16/17

Using a 360 camera attached to a specialized custom-built probe, Storm chaser Reed Timmer captured the inside of the wedge tornado that damaged south Elk City, Oklahoma on May 16, 2017. The probe was recording wind, pressure, and temperature data, even after the core flow knocked the unit over. The backside winds were likely howling at over 111 mph.

The tornado itself begins to pass over near the 2:00 mark.

This tornado was wrapped in rain and very difficult to see at times throughout its life-cycle. The National Weather Service (NWS) survey teams found damage on par with that of an EF2 tornado or stronger.
