Título:
A new electrical resistivity imaging tool for near surface exploration

Resumo:
We re-conceptualized the idea behind resistivity imaging by utilising some new
state-of-the-art instruments for near-surface electrical surveys. The key advantage
here is taking the benefit of flexible and decoupled, transmitter - receivers arrays in
the electrical method. Unlike conventional arrays, the receiver electrodes are planted
in L-shape to measure the electric-field components in two orthogonal directions
after injecting current from another pair of electrodes. The number of such receivers
with two orthonormal dipoles are used for the multiple current injections in full-3D
fashion. The above strategy improves our model resolution and depth of
investigation in the target zone. We tested it for an experimental hydrological park to
understand the fracture-network in a crystalline rock aquifer system, not clearly
imaged using past 2D and pseudo 3D approaches. First, we performed some
synthetic experiments based on the available knowledge from wells and other
subsurface information. Subsequently, we collected some new full 3D electrical data
following the above strategy. Both synthetic and field observations incites for this
new tool capabilities such as flexible acquisition set-up, greater DOI, better
signal-to-noise ratio, improvement in model resolution against the conventional
resistivity tools.
