Incline Village - Lake Tahoe, Nevada

In what is today's Incline Village, General George Whittell Jr. had the opportunity to purchase 40,000 acres of Lake Tahoe land on the Nevada side in 1935. The purchase included 27 miles of northern shoreline. In 1960, Whittell sold off nine thousand acres of his land that was eventually developed by Art L. Wood. By 1968, over three thousand homes stood in Incline Village with plans on the way for a brand new ski resort. In 1987, this resort became Diamond Peak and doubled in size with the addition of new ski runs.

Today, Diamond Peak Ski Resort is located just behind the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe and ranks in the World’s 100 Best Ski Runs. The Hyatt Regency competes with three other premier resorts in the area, including Parkside Inn at Incline, Tahoe Biltmore Lodge & Casino, and the Hyatt Residence Club Lake Tahoe. Sand Harbor State Park is 10 minutes from Incline Village and is home to the annual Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. The unique beaches of Sand Harbor feature large rock formations across its shores.

When you’re feeling lucky, head to Incline’s western neighbor Crystal Bay. The Crystal Bay Casino has been around since the beginning of the community. The renovated and improved casino offers table games, slot machines, and a sportsbook. For the non-gamer Crystal Bay Club hosts excellent live entertainment in addition to the Steak & Lobster House.

Students in Incline Village are educated by the Washoe County School District, beginning at Incline Elementary School. This school primes kindergarteners through fifth graders before they head to Incline Middle School. Incline High School, home of the Highlanders, is north of both schools, preparing students for their next step in life.

Popular restaurants in the village include Alibi Ale Works and Brewery, Lone Eagle Grille, Austin’s Restaurant, and Big Water Grille. For a night out, give Glasses Wine Bar or Brewforia Beer Market + Kitchen a try. You can also visit General George Whittell Jr.’s original estate, known today as Thunderbird Lodge Lake Tahoe National Historic Site.
