Bill Staines Kentucky Moonshiner

I've been a moonshiner for seventeen long year
I've spent all my money on whiskey and beer
in some lonesome hollow I'll build me my still
and I'll make you a gallon for a two dollar bill

I'll go to some grocery and drink with my friend
no woman to follow me and see how I spend
God bless those pretty women, I wish they were mine
their breath is as sweet as the dew on the vine

it's cornbread when I'm hungry, corn liquor when I'm dry
green backs when I'm hard up, religion when I die
the world is but a bottle, life is but a dram
when the bottle is empty it ain't worth a damn
