Australian tree that attacks with venom | 60 Minutes Australia

Australia is notorious for creatures that can kill you, but scientists say the third most painful sting one can experience in Australia doesn't come from an animal, but rather, a plant.

The Gympie Gympie, found in rainforests along the east coast of Australia, contains the most potent venom in any plant in the world, and it delivers excruciating pain through its fine hairs which can last for days.

Researchers are looking into the tree's toxin to develop a non-opioid pain reliever for chronic pain.
