Xiaomi Yi Camera review with Sample footage
A review of the Xiaomi Yi action camera; a strong competitor to GoPro. With vlogger, dashcam and general scenery sample footage.
Sample footage starts at 11:07
Just like the GoPro, there's no screen to show you what you're recording. But with a 155 degree wide angle lens, as long as you're pointing the camera in the right direction, you're likely to capture whatever it is you wanted to.
If you turn on the Xiaomi Yi wifi and connect using an Android or iOS phone or tablet, you can see a live preview of what you're shooting and you can also review old clips.
If you live stream the image over wifi while recording, you'll get a weird clicking noise on the audio. Three's a small hardware mod that can fix this problem or you can simply record your video with wifi turned off.
The Yi is sold as a 1080p 60FPS camera but due to recent firmware upgrades, it's now able to shoot at 2k.
Although 2k isn't a very common format, some people might like to shoot at that resolution and then use software to crop the video at 1080p with digital stabilization.
It can also shoot slow motion video at 240FPS with a resolution of 480p.
