Rahat: Simplifying access to cash relief

In Jaleshwor Municipality in Mahottari District, through the collaborative efforts of UNICEF and Rumsan - powered by support from UNICEF's Office of Innovation - blockchain technology is now being utilized to provide timely cash transfers to those in need.

The Rahat project, powered by the Rahat digital cash and voucher assistance (CVA) management system, aims to simplify cash distribution and promote financial inclusion, accountability, and transparency. With the help of mobile-based blockchain tokens, aid transactions can be efficiently managed and monitored, making a significant difference in emergency response and recovery programs.

Eligible families receive tokens on their mobile phones or direct deposits into their bank accounts. They can also claim their funds through QR code cards.

This pilot program in Jaleshwor, a flood-prone area heavily impacted by the pandemic, is just the beginning. UNICEF continues to explore how these initiatives can be expanded in the future to transform more lives and bring hope to those who need it the most! 💙
