The internet quickly turned the campaign into a viral disaster, with thousands of tweets mocking the brand within hours. McDonald’s deleted the original tweet, but the damage was done. #McDStories became a classic example of how social media can backfire, and a warning to brands about the risks of handing over control of their narrative online.
