Antic Dance (B166) | Playford Dances Series | Dulcian Consort

"Antic Dance" (B166) from The English Dancing Master (1651)

This video is part of an ongoing series exploring the Playford Dances, performed on a dulcian consort in 4-part settings by Bernard Thomas.
The project is based on the collections LPM102 and LPM103 (Playford Dances, Vol. 1 & 2), with pieces selected and presented individually rather than in strict publication order.

The word "antic" originally suggested something lively, curious, or whimsical. True to its title, this dance has an energetic and playful character, brought to life here through the rich and flexible sonority of the dulcian consort.

Performed as a multi-track recording.
