ICU Staff Share Heartbreaking Stories From a Year on the Covid Frontline | This Morning

‘I wake up scared, I don’t want to go to work, but I have to’. The words of an ICU nurse, one of 30,000 intensive care staff who have worked more than a million extra hours and who have seen more death in the past year than they will have in their entire careers. As a result of the pandemic, one in two ICU staff would benefit from psychological intervention, according to The Intensive Care Society. Professor Hugh Montgomery and Dr Shond Laha, who’ve been at the frontline of the pandemic and who feature in ITV’s hard-hitting documentary tonight, join us to reveal the effect the last year has had on them and why they’re getting behind a new campaign which aims to protect ICU staff and their wellbeing.
