Armenian Impressions: Lake Arpi National Park

Join Marine Karapetyan on a trip to Lake Arpi National Park. Located in the extreme northwest corner of Armenia, on the Javakhk-Shirak Plateau close to the border with Turkey and Georgia. The National Park area is part of the same ecosystem found in Javakheti Protected Areas in Georgia. The National Park comprises Lake Arpi and a number of other small lakes, rivers and wetlands, all of which host a variety of local and migratory bird species, including the largest colony of Armenian gulls in the world, and the only breeding site in Armenia of the Dalmatian pelican. It is also the only known habitat of the Darevski viper and in summer the park’s meadows are thick with around 90 species of butterfly. This remote and unspoilt corner of Armenia is perfect for bird-watching, mountain biking, sport fishing and horseriding, and can be combined with a visit to Javakheti Protected Areas for an unforgettable cross-border eco-tourism experience.Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lakearpinationalpark/ website: http://khosrovreserve.am/Caucasus Nature FundCaucasus Nature Fund website: https://www.caucasus-naturefund.orgStay updated on what happens in the protected areas of the Caucasus: Caucasus Nature Fund on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CNF.CaucasusNatureFund/Caucasus Nature Fund on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/caucasus-nature-fund
