On a recent trip, we combined a few hobbies, enduro riding and backpacking on a 120 mile adventure across the San Bernardino National Forest. Starting in the town of Running Springs, we rode through Green Valley past Lake Arrowhead to Silverwood Lake. From there we rode across Cleghorn which drops you off at the 15 freeway in the Cajon pass. We rode across a few more ridge lines to the west and ended up in Lytle Creek where we made camp for the night. There were a few hiccups along the way. The KTM had a front tire that kept going flat despite putting several plugs in the tire. The Beta's clutch started acting up and it seemed likely that one of the clutch plates were broken. We also rediscovered that riding with 60 LBS of gear strapped to your back isn't ideal and we took a few spills while trying to get used to the higher center of gravity. Too add to that, it made the ride a lot more tiring and by the time we made camp we were both exhausted. On the way back, we made it over half way along the same route headed toward Running Springs when we decided that it would be better to take the highway back rather than have to come rescue the bikes with a truck. We took the fire roads in to Lake Arrowhead, had lunch and then rode back to the trucks on the main roads.
