WATCH: Falcon 9 Launches South Korea Satellite, Booster Lands Minutes Later | The Hohmann Files

South Korea has successfully launched its next-generation Earth observation satellite aboard a Falcon 9 rocket operated by SpaceX from Vandenberg Space Force Base.

The mid-sized satellite, developed by Korea Aerospace Industries, is designed to support land monitoring, disaster response, and the expansion of private-sector space capabilities.

The mission also carried second-generation low-Earth orbit satellites from Foxconn, marking the company’s continued push into space technology. The PEARL-1A and PEARL-1B satellites will conduct on-orbit missions focused on communications and space science over the coming years.

The launch featured a successful first-stage booster landing just minutes after liftoff — a hallmark of SpaceX’s reusable rocket system — highlighting the growing role of commercial providers in global space missions.

This launch underscores intensifying competition and collaboration in the space sector, as governments and private companies expand capabilities in Earth observation, communications, and orbital technology.
