Timing a ltz kfx dvx drz 400 all years
Exhaust cam (front of motor towards front tires) 2 is on top (bulkier cam with decompression mechanism)
Intake cam (rear of motor towards rear tires) 3 is on top
15 notches (pins)(called teeth in video) between the cam arrow. First arrow is number one.
MAKE SURE YOU ARE AT TOP DEAD CENTER. THE LINE NEXT TO THE T SHOWN IN THE VIDEO.
PLACE ANY CHAIN SLACK TOWARD THE INTAKE CAM (back of the motor) so when the cam chain tensioner is inserted it will take up that slack. Any slack on the othwr side will causd your timing to be out of spec. A GOOD CHECK is to place your finger into the CCT (cam chain tensioner) hole and mock the tensioner. Your timing shouldn't move the intake may turn back the slightest bit but if your exhaust cam and the number of chain link notches are in spec then you're fine. If its a new chain it will be dead on but once it is stretched it will rotate the intake cam slightly as stated before.
ENSURE THE CAMS ARE TORQUE SPECED BEFORE INSERTING CCT
TO REINSERT THE CCT:
With the main tensioner bolt removed place you finger on the spring loaded lock and inster the tensioner shaft back into its housing. (A few notches back will do) next bolt the tensioner back on with the 2 mounting bolts THEN put the main spring and tensioner hollow bolt back on. I usually slowly tighten it to let the spring do the work of extending the tensioner. Once tight to torque spec sping the motor around by the flywheel as you did before in the video to make sure the tensioner has taken all of the slack. Recheck your timing before buttoning everything up!!
This will also work with dvx and kfx 4009 because they are universal
