Revisit to Explain the Breach of SRIRANGAPATNA FORT on May 4 1799

The Srirangapatna Fort, located in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, was breached on May 4, 1799, during the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War. The fort was the stronghold of the Mysore Kingdom, ruled by Tipu Sultan, who was known for his resistance against the British colonial forces.

The British forces, led by General Sir David Baird and assisted by a contingent of the Nizam of Hyderabad, began their assault on the fort in the early hours of May 4. The initial attack involved a barrage of artillery fire on the fort's walls, followed by a full-scale assault by the British troops.

Despite fierce resistance from Tipu Sultan's forces, the British were able to breach the fort's defenses and gain entry into the inner fortification. The fighting was intense, with both sides suffering heavy casualties.

Tipu Sultan, who was leading the defense of the fort, was martyred in the fighting. His Martyrdom marked the end of the Mysore Kingdom's resistance against the British forces.

The fall of Srirangapatna Fort was a significant turning point in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, leading to the eventual defeat of the Mysore Kingdom and the establishment of British colonial rule over much of India. The breach of the fort also marked the end of Tipu Sultan's reign, who is still remembered today as a hero of Indian independence and a symbol of resistance against colonialism.

The Srirangapatna Fort was located on an island in the Cauvery River and was a strategically important stronghold of the Mysore Kingdom. The fort was heavily fortified with walls, bastions, and towers, making it a difficult target for attackers.

However, the British forces were able to breach the fort's defenses by using a combination of artillery fire and a surprise attack. The British had managed to secretly transport their troops and artillery across the Cauvery River at night with the help and information obtained by traitors like Mir sadiq and Mir Nadim, and then launched a surprise attack on the fort walls.
