S.C. 2020: Mayor Pete Buttigieg in North Charleston on May 5, 2019

South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg spoke to a crowd of about 600 people during his first rally in South Carolina since announcing his candidacy for president. Buttigieg addressed racial disparities in the criminal justice system, civil rights, partisanship, Russia and gentrification among other issues. Despite North Charleston being 47 percent African American, the crowd at North Charleston High School was predominantly white. “It shows we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Buttigieg said after the rally.
