Civilians live each day in fear in Ecuadorian city dubbed ‘murder capital of the world’ | SBS News

Homicide rates in Duran, Ecuador have soared over the last five years, fuelled by drug trafficking and organised crime, earning the city the title of ‘murder capital of the world’.

In January this year, President Daniel Noboa declared a national state of emergency authorising military action against criminal gangs. Duran’s civilians live in daily fear. Correspondent, Prue Lewarne, is there.
