17-year Cicadas Swarms
Brood III of the periodical cicadas emerged in Iowa in 2014 after 17 years underground. The long-living insects fascinate entomologists but sometimes annoy others, as thousands of singing male cicadas in a single tree create a loud, constant drone for hours each day.
