Return To New Wave / Synth-Pop & Eurodisco: Chase - Giorgio Moroder (1978)

Giorgio Moroder's "Chase" is an iconic electronic instrumental track released in 1978, famously featured in the soundtrack for the film Midnight Express. It's widely recognized for its pioneering influence on electronic dance music and is considered a precursor to genres like Hi-NRG.

The song was specifically created for Alan Parker's 1978 film Midnight Express, a drama about an American imprisoned in Turkey. Parker explicitly requested a track similar to Moroder's earlier hit, "I Feel Love," which he produced for Donna Summer. While initially labeled disco, "Chase" is celebrated for its innovative use of synthesizers, particularly the Roland SH-2000 for the main melody and a Minimoog for the basslines. This helped define the burgeoning electronic music sound of the late 70s and early 80s.

"Chase" has had a lasting legacy, being sampled by artists like Daft Punk and Vitalic, and appearing in various media from professional wrestling entrance themes to video games like Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. It's also been used as the opening theme for the radio show Coast to Coast AM and frequently in Iranian sports programs.
