KONAFA - KUNAFA Recipe -How to Make EASY and SIMPLE Konafa-

KONAFA is a highly beloved Middle Eastern and Mediterranean desert that traditionally comes during Holidays and Special Occasions. KONAFA
is made from shredded Filo Pastry that crisps into this beautifully golden desert when baked, soaked in sweet, sugar-based syrup, and typically
layered with cream, nuts, or any other ingredients. There are so many variations of it, but the cream-filled is one of the most popular and delicious.
INGREDIENTS
1 lb KATAIFI Dough
1 cup (2 sticks of 4 oz) unsalted melted butter
Ingredients for the Syrup
1 cup water
¾ cup sugar
1 cup good quality of honey
2 Tbsp Fresh squeezed lemon juice
1Tbsp Orange blossom water
Ingredient for the Cream Filling
2 ½ cups whole milk
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
3 Tbsp cornstarch
1 can table cream or any other cream you like
1 Tbsp orange blossom water

INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Preparing the Syrup
1- Over medium heat place a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water, ¾ cup of granulated sugar, 1 cup of honey, 2 Tbsp of fresh squeezed lemon juice,
2- Bring that to a boil by stirring until the sugar dissolved,
3- Reduce the heat to med/low and boil for 5 minutes without stirring,
4- Add 1 1 Tbsp orange blossom water mix and boil for another 1 minute,
5- Remove from the heat and let the syrup cool,
Step2: Preparing the Cream Filling
6- Place a medium saucepan over medium heat then add 2 ½ cups of milk and 2 Tbsp Sugar, mix well and bring that mixture to a simmer,
7- In a small bowl combine 3 Tbsp cornstarch and ¼ cup milk, mix well until the cornstarch is dissolved,
8- Once the milk is warm, gradually add the dissolved cornstarch by whisking constantly,
9- Once the mixture turns into a thick cream, remove the pan from the heat,
10- Add 1 cup table cream and mix until well combined, then add 1 Tbsp orange blossom water and mix,
11- Place your mixture into a medium bowl then let it cool to room temperature,
Step 3: Preparing the KONAFA
12- Thaw the KATAIFI Dough overnight in the fridge, then place it in the counter for 2 hours before using it, or according to package instructions,
13- Remove the Dough from the package then place it in a large bowl,
14- Start cutting the Dough by using your hands,
15- Then use a food processor to shred the KATAIFI Dough, place half of the dough into your food processor bowl and pulse several times until you get thin pieces of your Dough,
16- You can use scissors to shred the Dough into thin pieces,
17- Place your shredded KATAIFI into a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup of unsalted melted butter little by little and use your hand to mix until well combined,
18- Mix until every thin piece of the dough is coated with the butter,
Step 4: Assembling and Cooking the KONAFA
19- Preheat the Oven to 350 F,
20- Brush a 9” baking pan with the butter, then place 2/3 of the KATAIFI over the pan,
21- Spread it evenly over the baking pan, make sure you don’t leave any empty spot, cover all the bottom with the dough evenly,
23- Use a cup and go around the edges by pressing down the dough with the cup to create borders so the cream will stay inside while its cooking,
24- Now place the cream over the first layer of the Dough and spread it gently with a spatula or a large spoon,
25- Make sure to keep the cream inside,
26- Cover the cream with the remaining KATAIFI, spread it evenly over the pan to cover the cream,
27- DO NOT press down the KATAIFI Dough hard, or you will pull up the cream,
28- Make sure you cover all the top and don’t leave any spot uncovered,
29- Place your baking pan in the center rack of your oven and bake for 45 min or until it has a nice golden color,
30- Remove the baking pan from the over,
31- While it’s hot poor immediately the COOL syrup over the KONAFA and let it cool to room temperature to absorb the syrup at least 4 hours,
32- Ran a thin edged spatula around the edges to loosen the KONAFA from the pan,
33- Use a plate and flip the KONAFA over it, add more syrup over the top,
34- Garnish with ¼ cup roasted chopped almond and some walnuts,
35- You can serve it warm or cold, add more syrup over you slice while serving it,
36- SO DELICIOUS, Bon Appetit!!
