2016 Range Rover Td6 Review Road Test
For this review, we're taking this 2016 Range Rover Td6 and it ain't the shopping mall. Heck yeah, we're going off roading. Plus, I don't think you want to see another boring on road review of a Range Rover.
This is of course the same new Range Rover that we love. It's hundreds of pounds lighter because is made of mostly aluminum. Mind you, it's still over two tonnes, and that's metric tonnes.
Zero to sixty happens in just 7.4 seconds, which is only a couple of ticks slower than the gasoline V6. No surprise since peak torque hits at 1750 RPM. However, while the torque is impressive at low speeds, on the highway, you’re left for wanting more power. It’s just not quick enough at highway speeds to give you confidence while passing.
This interior is gorgeous and save for some of the buttons and dials, it’s actually quite a minimalist design. Clean lines, and in this particular Range Rover Td6, the contrasting colour combination is stunning. Since this is the big daddy Range Rover it’s very spacious and you do sit tall, as it should be said, with a commanding view of the road. It’s worth noting that short blokes like me have to sit up into the driver’s chair.
Infotainment is dreadfully slow and a bit outdated compared to the competition, but Land Rover and Jaguar are rolling out an improved system and hopefully it hits this big Range Rover sooner rather than later.
The exterior design is worth mentioning because it’s bold and distinctive. I’d say it’s unique, too, but there’s probably a copycat lookalike somewhere in China. Regardless, it’s unmistakably a Range Rover and its design is unquestionably representative of the brand. You know by looking at it that it’s both capable and luxurious.
Even the man responsible for some of the most beautiful cars on the road, Aston Martin’s design chief, Marek Reichmann told me not long ago that of all vehicle designs, Range Rover’s work is one he really admires.
