When learning how to grow a giant pumpkin, vine maintenance is very important to keep in mind. Your main vine and secondaries are the primary source of nutrients and energy, but any more than that can start causing issues. Many growers remove all tertiary vines (side vines off of secondary vines), tendrils, and even male and female flowers after they are confident they have successfully pollinated their pumpkin for the year.
