"Bring us back to You, Hashem, and we shall return, renew our days as of old."
In the early part of the 1900s, Czestochowa, Poland was not a pleasant place for a Jew to live. Antisemitism was running rampant and worsening by the day.
The foreboding of times to come was ominous and looming.
It was there at that time that a great miracle took place...
The Wolkowicz family, with their 14 children, had just watched their family-run tailor store burn to the ground by local antisemites. They knew the time had finally come for them to leave Poland for America...but how? With such a large family and their business now gone, how could they afford to send all the children, the parents as well as other family members on a boat to New York?
And so, in the deep recesses of their heart, the family cried out, "Hasheveinu Hashem Eilecha V'nashuva Chadesh Yameinu K'kedem."
It was then that the elder gandfather, Reb Yeshaya Eliezer, went into town with a few zloty (Polish currency) in his pocket and a prayer in his heart. As he exchanged the money for a single lottery ticket, the prayer that rose from his heart and upon his trembling lips was a humble but profound one. "Master of the Universe, the world around us is rapidly slipping back into darkness. We, your children, the light unto the nations, stand as we have and will always, at the threshold between Darkness and Light. We stand forever faithfully ready to serve you and to hold down the front line in the great war against evil. I implore you, please shelter my family from the approaching storm. Please save them. May this solitary lottery ticket, like the eye of a needle, be the small opening through which you may fulfill your promise and expand it into an opening wide enough for vessels of the miraculous to enter!"
He concluded, "Hasheveinu Hashem Eilecha V'nashuva Chadesh Yameinu K'kedem."
Not long after, the family received a telegram. They had won the town lottery! It was just enough money to send their large family to America. In the years to come, Czestochowa was completely decimated by the Nazis. Very few Jews survived.
The SS Kroonland arrived at Ellis Island on Thursday November 25, 1920, Thanksgiving Day. Right there and then the name Wolkowicz was changed to Walker and exactly one hundred years later, three Walker brothers - great, great grandchildren of Yeshaya Eliezer - are deeply humbled to present to you our tribute to all those who came before us, to our family and to all families that sacrificed so much to give us the ultimate - a chance to come into existence and the freedom to use that existence to make the world a far brighter place than what it was before.
We are the dreams of dreamers that long ago stood as a lone embered beacon in their long night, giving our ancestors the transcendent strength to draw forth a thread of light and weave it faithfully through the darkness.
We are, all of us, walking miracles and the children of miracles, whose ancestors built bridges of miracles willed into existence.
We are the fulfillment of the Great Dream, pulsing rhythmically in the imagination of the Creator, who hears us crying out "Hasheveinu Hashem" and answers us as only a loving parent could....

"Chadesh Yameinu K'kedem!" I never left you. I never will. Your days and the days of your ancestors are now renewed together forever as one - My Dream fulfilled!
This is our story - the brothers of Pey Dalid, the Wolkowicz/Walker family. It is the story of us all. Now it is our turn in the great harmonious chain of yearning voices everywhere to sing out proudly and with true Thanksgiving, "Hasheveinu Hashem Eilecha V'nashuva Chadesh Yameinu K'kedem!"
