The Isle of Wight's 80 Year Old Tube Trains! Island Line Review

Hello, and welcome back to another train trip report on my channel.

In this video I will be travelling on-board a SWR Class 483 from Shanklin to Ryde Esplanade. These trains are particularly interesting, as they are 80 year old London Underground 'tube' trains, converted for use on the Isle of Wight.

Whilst nowadays these somewhat tired units have been replaced by the much newer Class 484 'sub-surface' London Underground D-Stock from the 1970s, this video will serve greatly as a memorandum of these quirky little units, which still operated right up to early 2021.

The Isle of Wight railway, known as the 'Island Line' runs on a small portion of the Eastern side of the island, from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin. Excellent connections are available between Ryde and boat/hovercraft services to Portsmouth on the mainland, making this a really useful link.

Enjoy the video. :)
