Grayson Allen was a McDonald's All American and state champion in high school, a modern legend at Duke. Leading the blue devils to a National Championship, scoring 2000+ points over 4 years and seeing his jersey retired come to the end of his scholarship. Despite all the great things Allen accomplished in college, what he is remembered for is his dirty play. Grayson was involved in 3 separate tripping incidents, all of which were clearly intentional. He saved the worst for last too, a little over a month into the season already having said publically he wanted to leave his dirty play in the past, Grayson was issued a technical foul for yet another trip. And was publically shamed for his immaturity when pictured throwing a tantrum on the bench. He was stripped of Duke captaincy from Coach K, and suspended indefinitely by the NCAA.
Even as one of the senior players his last year Allen was given a flagrant one in the ACC tournament vs North Carolina, for what officials called a 'hip check'
Still though above and beyond all this, Allen comes the end of his senior year. Was still an NBA caliber prospect, and was therefore drafted with the 21st pick by the Utah Jazz. Allen's reputation followed him from NCAA to the NBA, and he took no time to add to that too. Getting into a scuffle with Trae Young after a dumb tackle play, in one of his very first summer league games.

Allen for most of his rookie season seriously struggled, and at times he didn't look like he was capable of holding his own at the NBA level. Through 3 thirds of the season, Allen was statistically the least efficient player in the entire NBA. And was putting up abysmal numbers not even worth mentioning, it got so bad that his agent even turned to management and requested to have Allen demoted to the G-league. Where he could regain his confidence as a professional basketball player, this experiment actually worked out for the best. Grayson was solid in his 12 G-league games averaging more than 16 points per, and when finally given a second chance in the NBA. Grayson Allen had a career performance with 40 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in an overtime loss to the Clippers.
Having regained his credibility as an asset of some value in the league towards the end of last season, Grayson was involved in a trade with Kyle Korver to send Mike Conley to Utah. And it didn't take Grayson long to introduce himself to the new fans in Memphis, he was hilariously ejected from a summer-league game after receiving two flagrant fouls in 8 seconds. This trade might be a blessing in disguise though, as Memphis of all cities. Known for glamorizing their grit and grind play, might take Allen and his dirty play in as one of their own. This season Allen being on a rebuilding team without the pressure of competing now, with increased opportunity has started to look more like the player he expected to see coming out of Duke. So far in under 20 minutes per game, Allen is averaging 8.5 points and shooting close to and above 40% from the outside and the field. Overall Grayson is improving the game in game out and with an entire fanbase behind him, projects to be another successful reclamation project in Memphis.
