Cheap improvised fix for broken spacebar switch on a laptop

So my corporate laptop is apparently 3 years old but decent 64GB 8 core Xeon.
spacebar stopped working during lockdown.
Sure I can plugin an external USB OR USE Bluetooth but I wanted a replacement. I have fixed the on my daughters laptops (loads of tiny screws and hours of time).
I was advised I have to order a new PC. Why? This one is fine - I don't want to incur a £4000 cost.

Taking apart we can approach this like any engineering problem. Debug, diagnose, propose fix, test it.

The membrane still works but the silicon nipple has failed. Ah - what if I improvise a spring from electronics heat shrink - got these for guitar repair.
Stick it to rear of spacebar ....works!!!

No need to order a new £4000 laptop.

Alas this is not playing the Corporate game. Oh well...
