REVIEW: Honda Super Cub vs Honda PCX150 - Part 2

In today's commute vlog, I took the Super Cub across town and confirmed my initial opinions. The PCX150 is probably a better overall commuter, but the Cub is DEFINITELY more fun to ride. Skip to the end of the description for clickable time indexes.

I left plenty of ride time in this video so you can get an impression of how the Cub is to ride... lots of shifting, steady running at 45+ mph, engine/exhaust noise... the good stuff!

My morning commute video was eaten by the GoPro audio bug again. That's really getting old, so I will likely switch over to a dedicated audio recorder in the near future. I already have two high-end units, but I need to figure out the cabling and mounting logistics before I commit to that. It's too bad that the GoPro's don't have built-in Bluetooth audio... things could be so simple if that were true.

The Cub is a HUGE hit everywhere I go. I don't really need other people's approval for my satisfaction, but it is nice that everyone else seems to enjoy it as much as I do. People of all ages go out of their way to stop and admire the bike and to start conversations about it.

The Cub is the hands-down winner for the coolest commuter machine, in my opinion. It's not as fast or as practical as my PCX150's (or any of the other moto's in my stable), but I definitely have more fun riding the Cub vs the PCX. The mechanical involvement of shifting and working WITH the machine (instead of just twisting the throttle and using the machine) is more enjoyable to me. Don't get me wrong... I still love riding my scooters, but the Cub is a more interactive ride.

The Cub is also the winner (so far) in terms of efficiency. It is returning extremely high fuel economy over the past few fill-ups. The last 2 tanks were 140+ MPG! I'm not flogging it at freeway speeds or sitting at redline for long periods like I may do on my PCX150's, but the Cub is certainly more efficient. I will do a head-to-head comparison in the next installment of this series to get hard numbers for comparison. So far, the Cub is handily beating the PCX by ~35% or more over the same roads and same average speeds (PCX averages 101 mpg, while the Cub is at 136 mpg and climbing).

Time indexes:
0:00 : Ride comparison between the Super Cub and the PCX150 (or other mid-sized scooters)
1:13 : Getting more thumbs-up from random motorists... everyone loves the Cub!
4:45 : Check out that fantastic peripheral view in the CRG bar-end mirror!
5:40 : The Cub handles cross-winds much better than the PCX... less surface area for the wind to push against
6:54 : Using those CRG's to be sure I'm not going to be rear-ended in rush hour traffic
7:19 : Another nearby motorist smoking weed...
7:38 : More quick CRG action... I LOVE these mirrors
10:50 : Cagers sleeping at green lights again
11:26 : Just got the low fuel warning at 82 miles on the trip meter
12:30 : Verifying my speed with a radar sign... 41 mph detected (same on GPS), 42 mph on speedo
17:50 : Getting rocked by 20+ mph crosswinds again... the Cub handles it very well. Straight-line stability is very good at 50+ mph without any wandering or nervous/twitchy steering behavior.
18:30 : Just unadulterated ride footage and Cub sounds from here out... no commentary, just enjoying the ride.
19:22 : I just remembered that I can use my cruise control now that I'm out of break-in mileage! Even better!
