A barrage of fireworks, a crowd to rival a cup final and 700 loudly dressed dancers yesterday gave Narendra Modi a spectacle that boasted everything but understatement. The Indian prime minister had already been welcomed to Britain in more traditional style earlier in the day when he pulled up at Buckingham Palace for lunch with the Queen. The Master of the Household met the premier at the end of the red carpet to say: “A very warm welcome to you, sir.”
