Subaru Solterra Touring
Co-developed with Totota (BZ4X) – Subaru developed the AWD system.
Battery Capacity: 71.4 kWh Lithium Ion / 257 miles range (289 in Limited) / 90% of battery after 10 years
218 BHP / 0-62 6.9 secs / 336Nm Torque / 750kg towing capacity
All-wheel drive as standard (Toyota does a FWD single motor)
Two trim levels available: Limited and Touring. Both get 150kW DC charging, a heat pump, surround-view parking cameras and X-Mode w/Hill Decent Control
Touring gets 20in alloy wheels, wireless phone charging, faux leather seats, premium audio and a glass roof.
Five-star Euro Ncap

Interior :
Sensible and very useable
Fabric dashpad
- Driver information display – odd position
- High Floor
- Lots of piano black
- Steering Wheel a bit busy
Infotainment – new Toyota system, very good – wireless carplay.

Boot :
441 in Touring (452 litres) – high floor makes it seem very shallow.

Driving :
Refind ride
Quiet Cabin
210mm Ground Clearance
X-Mode w/Hill Decent Control
Quite an engaging drive with excellent traction, offers fun as well as function
257 miles official range but struggles a bit in the real world – reported to be much worse in colder weather (unable to test this personally).

Warranty :
The Solterra only gets Subaru’s standard three-year warranty, with eight-years/100,000 mile cover for the battery. The Toyota bZ4X gets Toyota’s 10 year warranty with the battery warranted for 600,000 miles.

Overall :
A very likeable car in many ways, but one that’s hard to recommend.

- Rivals offer more boot space
- High starting price
- Reported poor efficiency in cold weather
- Price (£50-£53k) gives it competition from Polestar 2, Kia EV6, Skoda Enyaq – same price as Tesla Model Y Long Range…
