How to Draw Blood on Goats for Routine Disease and Pregnancy Testing

We are back and less than a month away from the start of kidding when we will have milk flowing again and baby goat cuteness to put smiles on faces!

Part of our yearly routine is to draw blood for annual disease testing. We specifically test for CAE, which is an incurable viral disease. We also spot test for CL and Johnes just to be sure we keeping a clean herd.

We usually use Washington State lab (WADDL) for our testing. Testing is also available through Biotracking and many university vet schools.

The lab had enough blood to test even on the samples I didn't get quite as much as I'd wanted. Everyone came back negative!
