Over 100 of these festivals take place between April and September each year in Ikaria. We are going to witness and enjoy plenty of singing, dancing, eating and, of course, drinking the local wines. We are also going to see a 95-year old local man who has been dancing at the same festival for the last 40 (or more) years.
Icaria, also spelled Ikaria, is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, 10 nautical miles southwest of Samos. According to tradition, it derives its name from Icarus, the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology, who was believed to have fallen into the sea nearby.
