Production Visual Effects Supervisor Tara DeMarco breaks down the visual effects behind Netflix’s The Boroughs, from magical cosmic imagery and eerie crow murmurations to creature design and one of the season’s biggest stunt sequences.

In this exclusive The Boroughs interview, DeMarco reveals how the VFX team crafted the mysterious blue “magic goo” that transforms monster blood into something cosmic, designed the series’ unforgettable creature without making it resemble a spider, and balanced practical filmmaking with digital effects to preserve performances captured on set.

She also explains the challenges of creating the crow sequence that shifts from wonder to tragedy, how Hank’s cliffside car fall was achieved using practical stunts and digital compositing, and why making the town of The Boroughs feel completely real was one of the most rewarding visual effects accomplishments of the season.
