The contract includes a $10 million buyout if DeBoer leaves before February 2027, decreasing incrementally over the following two years before expiring. Discussions for the extension began amid speculation linking DeBoer to coaching vacancies at Penn State and Michigan, though he stated he never engaged in talks with either school. In two seasons, DeBoer has a 20-8 record with Alabama, leading the team to an 11-4 finish and a College Football Playoff appearance this past season.
