The world’s first military band visits Korea! Nuri meets Turkiye’s Mehter Military Band

Turkiye’s Mehter Military Band, the oldest military band in the world, visited Korea. The Mehter Military Band, created during the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century, had a great influence not only on military bands in each country but also on the Western music world. It is said that numerous musicians, including Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, composed music inspired by Mehter. “Diplomat Talks - Nuri's Day of Diplomacy,” is a series showing Nuri’s on-the-ground coverage of diplomacy. This week, Nuri PD visited the Military Culture Festival held in Gyeryong-si, South Chungcheong Province to personally hear the performance of the Mehter Military Band, which Türkiye is proud of. We also heard from the members of the military band on their thoughts about performing in Korea. Meanwhile, Nuri PD met with the Turkish Ambassador to Korea Salih Murat Tamer to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic, and talked about cooperation between Korea and Turkiye in the military field and defense industry.

세계에서 가장 오래된 군악대인 튀르키예 메흐테르 군악대가 한국을 방문했다. 14세기 오스만 제국 시절에 탄생한 메흐테르 군악대는 각국의 군악대 뿐만 아니라 서양 음악계에도 지대한 영향을 끼쳤다. 하이든, 모차르트, 베토벤 등 수많은 음악가들이 메흐테르에 영감을 받아 작곡한 것으로 전해진다. 나누리 피디가 발로 뛰며 알아본 다양한 외교가 소식을 전하는 ‘디플로맷 토크 – 나누리 피디의 매우 외교적인 하루’. 이번 주에는 나피디가 튀르키예가 자랑하는 메흐테르 군악대의 연주를 직접 듣기 위해 충남 계룡시에서 열린 군문화축제 현장을 찾아갔다. 또한 군악대 대원들에게 한국에서 공연하게 된 소감도 들어봤다. 한편 나피디는 살리 무랏 타메르 주한 튀르키예 대사를 만나 튀르키예 공화국 건국 100주년을 함께 축하하며 한국과 튀르키예의 군사 분야 및 방위산업 협력에 대해 이야기를 나눴다.
