How Early Inertial Guidance Worked

Rockets and missiles once depended on inertial guidance to locate its position. Description by engineering pioneer Gene Wright who developed these systems with other team members at GE. Before GPS this was the main positioning system. Gimbals and accelerometers measured changes in position and speed. S-band radar was used to assist in tracking. Mr. Wright worked on NASA and military projects along with Wernher von Braun in Huntsville, AL and in New York State.
